Election Day!!!!!!!!!!

Voting is a historic civil rights law that is meant to ensure that the right to vote is not denied on account of race or color.
On Tuesday I had the pleasure of voting for the 2nd time this year. As a young African American women its important to get our young people out there and involved in the voting elections. I was a little hesitate about this years election because of all the controversy that was going on between McAuliffe vs. Cuccinelli . I didn't know which one to vote because of all the talk about cutting birth control and women's rights as far as being able to have an abortion to whichever circumstance.
But at the end of the day , I made the best decision according too who would "have my back". It was a great experience to have and anyone that takes this day for granted , shouldn't.

Halloween Party

On Halloween the Student Assembly of Richard Bland College hosted a Halloween party for the students of Richard Bland. In order to get in the party you had to wear a costume and bring a can good. For which one you did not have you had to bring a dollar. We also sold snacks and drinks. The party was very good we had a lot of people show up. This was our first event on campus. There were 260 people we were not expecting that many people to come out to this event. We collected a lot of can goods at the door. I was surprised that a lot of people actually dressed up in costumes. The party was going good until about 10 o'clock when a fight broke out and the campus police shut the whole party down and told everyone to leave. Then the problems went to the dorms that called the real Prince George police to get things under control. After about and hour everything calmed down and was back to normal.

Poems

This week in class we had to read poems and discuss them in class. I like poems some poems have so much meaning to them. I find poems to be more interesting then stories. Poems to me are peoples real feelings coming out on paper. People write poems because they don't really know how to express their feelings. Some poems you really have to think about what they are saying and what it means.

The Glass Menagerie Paper...

In class we had to write a paper on The Glass Menagerie it had to be 700+ words. I found this paper to be a little hard to do. At first, I didn't know what I was going to write about or where to start. In the paper we could choose to write about memory, symbols, or analysis the characters. It gave us a chances to write to an bigger audience than just our class. This paper you had to really think about and take time to write it. This was not a paper that you could do in a short period of time.

Virginia State Fair

On Saturday, I went to the Virginia State Fair for my second beyond the classroom. It was so many people there. I took my nephew to the State Fair, this was his first time going to the fair. He was so excited about seeing the animals. He said he wanted to ride the pony I took him over there to ride the pony then he changed his mind. I got me a shish kabob I asked him did he want something to eat he said no and after I got it he wanted some. He almost ate the whole thing. We had a good time he rode on some of the rides he shocked me because I didn't think he was going to ride anything. He even rubbed the bunny rabbit. After we got in the car to go home before we got to Kings Dominion he was sleep the fair had wore him out.

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

I went to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts for college night. It was actually fun I thought it was going to be boring. My friends went with me a we signed up to play Pictionary that was fun even though we lost in the first round to some VCU students. One of the art students from Richard Bland was taking pictures of us playing the game. At the table they had where you could take post cards and cut them and design them to make art. They gave away a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize for that. They also had a screen that showed different students from different schools art work that they had created. It was nice they had people serving us drinks and when u finished they came to the table and collected our glasses and threw away our trash. I also walked around to see the art they had so many different type of arts things in there I was amazed. I really enjoyed the museum.

This week we had to do our first paper. We had to comapre ourselves to one of the characters we read about in one of our stories. I compared myself to the lady in "The Yellow Wallpaper". I thought this was going to be a hard paper to write about but once I actually sat down and thought about what I wanted to say my ideas just started to flow.
I really didn't like the idea of reading my story aloud to my group members. Once we got into groups and started to like the feed back that my group gave me about ways to make my paper better.

This week in class we read a story called "Hills Like White Elephants ". I found this story to be very strange because it really didn't tell you what the story was about you really had to guess. My thing about the story was if she was pregnant, why was she drinking a beer? At that time she really didn't know if she was going to keep the baby or not. I wish the story would have gave more details instead of having to guess what was going on. I really didn't understand what the title had to do with the story. What do you think?

This week in class we read a story called Everything That Rises Must Converge by Flannery O'Connor. This story was about Julian and his mother. Julian was a college graduate, who wanted to become a writer. He was selling typewriters until he could write a book. Julian was not racist but his mother was. He had to take her to her reducing meeting at the Y every Wednesday night. They rode the bus to the Y and that Wednesday night a black man got on the bus and the mother was hoping he did not seat beside her. He went and sat at the back of the bus. Then at the next stop a black lady and her son got on the bus and the black lady sat beside Julian with that same purple valet hat his mother had on. The little boy sat beside Julian's mother. The little boy was acting up on the bus and his mother grabbed him and told him to behave. When the black lady and her son got off the bus Julian's mother was going through her purse trying to find a nickel to give the little boy but all she had was a penny. Julian told her not to do that. She tried to give the little the penny and his mother turned around and said we don't take pennies from anyone and he hit Julian's mother with her purse. After that it seems like Julian's mother dies but it really doesn't say. This story was a little strange to me.

First Blog Week 1

Hello my name is Keondra Jones. I am new to blogging, this is my first time ever blogging. This week in class we read three stories How to become a writer, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, and The Yellow Wallpaper. These stories we read I found them very interesting. The stories really made me think because I felt like some details of the stories were left out. After, each story we discussed the things that happened and that help me get a better understanding of the stories.
